Answers about choosing, buying and riding an electric bike.

Choosing a bike

Which e-bike is right for me?

Start with your day: how far you ride, the hills on the way, where the bike will live and your budget. Our Bike Finder asks exactly those four questions.

How far will it go on one charge?

It depends on battery capacity, assistance level, hills, wind, temperature, rider and luggage weight, tyre pressure and how often you stop and start, so there is no single typical figure. Where the manufacturer gives a range estimate, the bike page shows it as a manufacturer estimate: we have not tested range independently. For example, the manufacturer of the RANDRIDE YX80M-2 estimates 31 to 60 km (about 19 to 37 miles) from its 960 Wh battery. Not every bike has a manufacturer estimate yet: ask us and we will check with the supplier.

To work out your own figure, divide the battery’s watt-hours by the energy used per mile. Lighter city e-bikes often use around 10 to 20 Wh per mile; heavy fat-tyre bikes use considerably more. Our commute calculator assumes 35 Wh per mile, and our guide How much range do I need? walks through an example.

What size do I need?

Where the manufacturer has confirmed a recommended rider height, it is shown on the bike page. For our current bikes it is still being confirmed, so tell us your height and inside leg and we will check with the supplier before you order.

UK rules

Do I need a licence or insurance?

In England, Scotland and Wales, an e-bike that meets the EAPC rules (motor up to 250 W, assistance up to 15.5 mph) needs no licence, registration, tax or insurance. The rider must be 14 or over. We are still verifying the exact UK configuration of our current models, so we do not yet describe them as EAPC compliant: ask us before ordering if you plan to ride on public roads. Rules differ in Northern Ireland. See GOV.UK.

Orders and delivery

Where do you deliver?

To mainland UK addresses, free of charge. Bikes are dispatched from a UK warehouse and usually arrive in 3 to 5 working days. We email your tracking details as soon as your bike ships. See Delivery & returns.

How do I pay?

By debit or credit card, or with Klarna, subject to Klarna’s own eligibility checks. Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons appear at checkout on supported devices and browsers. All payments are handled securely by Stripe, and we never see your card details.

Can I return my bike?

Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind. See Delivery & returns.

Estimate your running costs

Do the
maths.

Miles a year

Electricity a year

At 25p per kWh, about 35 Wh per mile (mid-point implied by the YX80M-2 manufacturer range of 31–60km from 960Wh), 85% charging efficiency, 48 riding weeks. An estimate, not a promise.
